The Second Week of School

Well, the first week of school was rough, to say the least. Note to Self: Next year, start a couple of subjects at a time, week by week, to ease into the full schedule and to give time to learn those subjects that are new to us. As the kids have gotten older, I've been able to teach them together less. It makes me feel like a ping pong ball bouncing around all over the place, especially with Carys added to the mix.

Landon, who has the most to do academically, felt like he was distracted by her too often--especially when she wanted whatever he was eating!

We tried to let her color while we did Spell to Write and Read but she kept interrupting, hollering at Gerren to hand her another marker!

Carys likes to get involved with piano practice, especially when Landon is playing along to worship songs. Her favorite is Because of Your Love.

She also thought push-ups looked fun when Landon was doing them to prepare for PT at Civil Air Patrol.

We adjusted the schedule slightly today so that our mornings will be less rushed. Hopefully, that will help. I'll keep you posted!

I don't know if this would work for you but my older kids get up at 6:00am to start their work at 6:30. It gives them time to work without the distractions of little ones and they finish their work early so that they have more time for their own interests. It has really helped us this year. With three littles, it was nearly impossible for me to help everyone when needed, now my day is divided up and everyone gets a little of me.LOL

Ah the joys of a new school year! I've found the same thing with the older students....there comes a point when combining didn't work well...but at least we're on the same topics.

I love this! Great pictures of Carys getting right in the middle of school work.

My oldest gets up early to start his school as well. It's self-initiated, however. I am NOT a morning person so I have a very hard time getting up early myself. :)

Fun pictures!

We always start with one or two subjects per day for the first week and gradually build up to full strength. It seems to be easier for ALL of us, including me!{g}

I love the start of a new school year almost more than the start of a new year. . . it's like you get a fresh new slate.

Linda, this is the first year that I'll be splitting my kids up a bit more. Lucky for me though, I haven't even started thinking about it yet, lol. Carys is so cute, but I know that's only good for about 10 mins. when you're trying to get school work done!

We also like to ease into our schedule.. a few new things each week not adding others until the former are working like clock work! I think you'll like that method if you give it a try next year.
