Too Busy to Blog?

Since it's summer, I should have all this extra time to blog, right? Ha! We are still working on school. We're done with some things, but all the stuff that has 180 days (mainly Sonlight stuff) won't be done until July. I am thinking I'll just begin the next levels then, so we'll have some breathing room next year.

I've also been working on some "big" projects that require more time. I've been catching up on my scrapbooks. I've been learning a lot about digital scrapbooking from my SHS sisters, and I am ready to take the plunge as soon as I finish the pages for which I have already printed out pictures. I'm getting close to that point. I plan to create 12x12 digital pages, then have them printed like a huge photograph to put in my existing Creative Memories albums. That way, I can still do regular 3D pages when the need arises (like studio pictures on the kids' birthdays) and when I choose. I am seeing the advantage to digital, though. Yesterday, I was scrapping the Spring 2008 page in all four kids' albums. I had purchase a Spring Page Palettes kit from Creative Memories. However, there wasn't enough of one particular thing to do four identical pages. So, I had to come up with two different designs. With digital pages, that wouldn't be a problem. I could just swap out the photos for each child's book.

Here's one of my first Smilebox creations. I intend to save up and have a bunch of these printed at once.

I am also busy in the middle of evaluation season. I used to do one evaluation each afternoon. This took up our whole summer last year. This year I decided to try something different. I am doing 2 evaluation days each month. I scheduled the evaluations one after another. I had my first day this past week, and I liked it. It seems like it is going to be a good thing for our family.

I am also in the middle of planning for next year's school. I just placed my curriculum order today. Now, I will start writing course descriptions (high school courses only), making new schedules for each child, planning any new curriculum, etc. There's a lot of work involved in all of this, but it makes the school year much easier!

Here's a picture of Chase and Carys all dressed up before Chase's choir concert. The girls choir is under the direction of my longtime friend, Laurie Dodd. They were fabulous! Greg took some pictures of the concert, but... well, Greg took the pictures. Two of them were fuzzy and the other had all the girls looking like aliens with white eyes. Oh well!

Finally, I have to include this video of Carys spinning. It's so funny! Whenever we hold up the camera, she says "cheese" and then wants to immediately "see cute?" which means look at the screen of the digital camera. This doesn't work for a video. It was all Landon could do to get her to keep spinning while he filmed!

That digital scrapbook page looks great! My sister bought an Epson that can print 12 X 12, but it costs her a fortune in ink. I have a friend who has 12 X 12 pages printed at Sam's for a reasonable amount of money.

You cannot believe how easy it is with Smilebox! I'm on a 2-week free trial now, but will probably pay the $39.99 for a year membership. I have a friend who gets her printed at Costco. I'm going to check the Sam's in Ocala. We go by there often enough.

I'm wondering about that smilebox stuff, but suspect that printing out will be much more expensive here than it is in the US.

Your girls look lovely!

And we won't be done with school for ages either!

Seems as though we are in sync with how we have been spending our days (grin). I have finally begun Sam's 12th year scrapbook this week - after finishing up on our Christmas 2006 album (still have 2007 pics waiting in the photo box).

As you know, I have been experimenting with my Creative Keepsake Scrapbooking program (I have had it for several years!!) and my Paint Shop Pro also has a scrapbook program with it.

It's fun but expensive if you intend to print the pages out. My intent is to eventually go all digital but not print out. This is hard to do for us hard core scrappers. However, digital means digital...so I am going to do my digital pages, convert them to slideshows, and then put them on discs. Eventually.

I am also getting curriculum ready. I have decided on LifePac for Science and History/Geography. Saxon for Math....that's as far as I have gotten....my brain feels like it's going to explode when I dwell on these decisions for too long (grin).

Ooo....that's brave! I am not willing to go completely digital. I must be able to print them out and put them in a book. My kids spend a lot of time looking at their albums. There's just something about a book. LOL! I feel the same way about reading books. "Kindle" my foot!

Linda - I'm going to have to look for that design. It's cute.

Our Sam's insists they can't print them out for me.....but I'm still looking. LOL I also want to put mine in a 12 x 12 album.

I loved the video of Carys spinning. LOL

Linda,
We're also working on a few "big" things... I guess you already know I'm working on photo albums as well.

Do you have a Costco nearby? If you can't find a place to print any just to see what they look like let me know and I'll print some for you from our Costco and send them so you can see what they look like before you get too far into it. I *LOVE* the pages.

Now.. quick question. The album page you did (is cute by the way), but I don't think it was one of the "square" formats. Are you aware of that? I'm pretty sure you have to use the "square" format in order for them to print out correctly on the 12x12 pages.

I'm also not quite ready to go completely digital.. I like the ease of smilebox where I can change a few things, but not have to create a page completely from "scratch." This is REALLY going to help me get some pages caught up quickly. When I feel like I have a better handle on how far behind I am then I may try some digital pages from scratch... But for now, I'm perfectly happy to keep creating the easy digital pages from smilebox!

Did you get in on one of the free teacher ones? Did you ask them about it? Even if I hadn't, I would have still paid the $40 a year... it's SO WORTH it, imo.

No, Cynthia, I don't know anything about the square pages! I am finding it difficult to figure out the site. I probably haven't spent enough time there. I'm not really behind on my scrapbooking, just looking for something simpler for the future. How do you "find" square pages?

Linda - it's great to catch up and see what all you are up to. I loved your Smilebox page! It looks adorable. I am fascinated by the digital scrapbooking conversations on the loop. I already spend so much time blogging, I can't imagine taking on another big hobby. Although having a new lap top (sometime in the future) would make it a very fun hobby. Ha!

Nice summery scrapbook page! The gils look very pretty all dressed up. LOL about your DH's photography. It could make a unique scrapbook page, the alien girls choir. LOL
