Well, we took the plunge and put our house on the market yesterday. No, I haven't taken up real estate in my spare time. The "Linda Meahl" who listed our house is affectionately known by us as "the other Linda Meahl". We both married into the name. Her husband and Greg are cousins.
We had a certified appraisal on our house a couple of weeks ago. Then, we listed the house for lightly less than the appraised value. If we can sell it for that amount (or even slightly less), we can pay off our mortgage and pay cash for a house in Ocala (slightly smaller than ours or without a pool but also without a mortgage).

When Greg took his current job we were expecting to be paid $200/month toward our health insurance after 6 months and to receive bonuses for each job he supervised. Well, the market went south and none of those benefits have materialized. So, we have to do something in order to continue living. Thankfully, we have no other debt other than our mortgage, but it's tough to feed, clothe, shelter and provide medical care for 6 people on one income. We've been praying for wisdom and feel like this is our best option. Otherwise, Greg would have to get a second job (not a good option since he's already gone from home for 12 hours every day) or I would need to get a job (not a good option if it includes sending the kids to public school), or Greg would have to get a different higher-paying job (not easy to do in this economy).
So, we're going to see what God will do. It wasn't an easy decision since we designed and built this house ourselves AND because it's a LOT of work to move. But, you know what? It's just a house. Everything we have came from God and belongs to him, and we want to hold it all with an open hand.
As Linda took pictures of the inside of the house, Carys followed her around with an old digital recorder pretending that it was a camera and taking her own "pictures". Of course, I couldn't get her to stand still long enough to actually get a picture of that!

Praying for you to sell your house quickly, Linda! It always seems stressful to me to have a house on the market. And the additional blessing of no mortgage would be AWESOME!

Congratulations!! Decisions such as these are always difficult. I'm thankful that we made the decision to "downsize" with our first home - the one we are in now..it definitely has given us more wiggle room with our personal choices. I love Ocala also...a great place to live as long as your children don't go to school there :)
Linda! I am praying God's will for you. What a tough decision but VERY exciting to see what plans He has for you!
That "Linda Meahl" sign threw me off completely when I saw it at first! lol
Praying that it sells quickly! It is a tough decision, but oh, to be debt-free will be well worth it!
Your home is in a great location, and with that nifty playroom, I'm sure some family will snatch it up quickly!
Tough decision - but praying it sells quickly. It sounds like a great plan to live without a mortgage.
That is very exciting! Keep us posted on the outcome. I will pray for God's will and His timing!
Praying for you all through this Linda!
I am so excited for you guys! I can't wait for you to move to Ocala! We will be so much closer and it will be easier to keep in touch. I am praying for you guys!! :)
Praying that God will quickly direct your path. I don't think I've ever seen the front of your house. I LOVE the style.
WAIT - you are all caught up on scrapping. Did you write a post on how you did this? Was it mostly smilebox creations? How do you plan to proceed from here on out? With the fancier programs on Smilebox? I'm impressed!
I'm on 1987 now....certainly better than 1964....but a ways to go - I found 9 rolls of undeveloped film in a camera bag last night. ::snort::
DeEtta, I am almost always caught up. I have OCD you know! :) I did it mostly with Smilebox. So easy!
Praying.
Too funny that the realtor has the same name as you!
