The one blessing to this is that we are replacing the utility room floor with the same stuff as the areas run together. Right now I have a vinyl floor in my utility room that I have hated almost from the time we moved in. It just did not wear well at all!
Greg spent several hours Sunday afternoon tearing up the old laminate. He hopes to begin putting down the new Tuesday evening.
Here is the bare concrete floor in the kitchen. At first Carys refused to walk on it and cried and cried. "This is going to be a long few weeks," we thought.

When we built our house 5 years ago, before we put any flooring down, I used a permanent marker to write verses of Scripture, carefully chosen, on the floor of each room. It was kind of neat to reveal two of these verses as we tore up the floor. This is the verse in the kitchen.

And this is the verse in the breakfast nook.

It was fun to reconsider why I had chosen those particular verses. I think the dining room has "Taste and see that the Lord is good." I figured I'd be doing most of my work in the kitchen (I was right!). And I guess I figured that we'd spend the most time talking around the table in the nook. Looking back over the past 5 years, I think these were pretty good choices!
I'll post pictures when the new floor is down.

R.I.P. kitchen floors. I LOVED your kitchen floor, but I'm sure that the slate will look great too!
Linda - so sorry you have to do all the work of replacing the flooring. It will look gorgeous in the end!
I LOVED your Bible verses. I think that is such a moving thing to do. Do you have some new verses to add this time??
Linda,
This is such a coincidence. I have the second set of verses on my kitchen door and the first on a postcard above my sink! To remind me when I am doing the dishes, that I'm doing the Lord's work! {g}
Kathy, I hadn't really thought of putting anything new on the floors, but Chase asked if she could write something. Of course, I questioned, "What?" She wants to write Phil 4:6-7 (which is her latest memory verse - made easy, I might add, by the Seeds CD): Do not be anxious about anything... I think this would be a good verse to have by my desk in the kitchen which is where I do the bills, lesson planning, etc)!
I hope the project goes smoothly for you!
I remember you putting verses on the subflooring. I love that idea. IF we ever get to build a home and stay put....I'll try to remember this tip.
