CAP Awards 2008

My birthday was just fabulous this year. We had people in and out of the house, ran around to haircuts and awards programs, and tried to get in an almost full day of school as well. Ugh! I usually take off school on my birthday, but after 2 weeks off at Thanksgiving and 2 weeks coming up for Christmas, I just didn't want to do it this year.

Unfortunately, it also fell on the night of the annual CAP Awards "Banquet". They call it a banquet, but we really only have desserts. Anyway, Landon received his Armstrong Achievement. This is a step between the ranks of Chief Master Sargeant and Lieutenant. In CAP, they are only allowed to promote every 2 months (unlike JROTC where they can promoted every month). Unfortunately, the Armstrong Achievement adds another 2 months between these two ranks. To earn the achievement, Landon had to write an essay and give a speech, as well as meet the Physical Training requirements. He has already met the PT requirements for his promotion to Lieutenant, but he'll have to take a big test, a compilation of all the material he has learned and tested on already, as well. If he passes that, he will promote to Lieutenant in February.

Here he is receiving his Armstrong.

We were also thrilled to learn that he was named Cadet of the Year for his squadron.

In addition, he received the Air Force Association Citation. This one came with a big medal, which he can thinks he can only wear on service dress. He may not be able to wear it at all, so I guess we'll have to frame it or something!

Gerren got a certificate for making his first Orientation Flight. Here's part of a group picture zoomed in on the boys.

My pictures are not turning out good, and I am going to have to re-read the manual over Christmas break. I'm also planning to take a digital photography class in the spring at the technical institute nearby.

WooHoo - congrats to both Landon and Gerren. Good luck on the Leut promotion - I know that's a tough one. Jared will be thrilled to hear that you are Cadet of the Year - isn't this the second year in a row - and an AF citiation - you're blazing a path.

No, last year he was Airman of the Year. He'd been in just about 6 months at that time. This is a totally different squadron this year than last. Some excellent senior members have made some incredible improvements, and we are so thrilled and thankful.

I never knew that Cynthia! I know SO many people with birthdays within 2 days one way or the other of mine! Greg has two cousins who had children on my actual birthday. I wonder what it is about that time of year! :)
