Kitchen Mess

Well, this week has been FUN! On Tuesday, Landon noticed that the kitchen floor was buckled. We have Pergo in there. This is not a good sign. He also noticed that the kitchen faucet (we have a pull-out hose on the faucet, rather than separate, if that makes sense) was spraying water everywhere. Turns out the faucet/hose/whatever leaked under the cabinet and under the Pergo and ruined several boards.

Now, this particular Pergo style, Pergo Prodigy Renovation Pine, was discontinued several years ago, so we can't just run out and buy another box. If we don't find a box, we'll be replacing all the laminate in the house. We will probably do it at our own expense because our insurance has already skyrocketed ($800-$2000 in 5 years), and Greg thinks that if we make a claim we'll never get insurance again. So why are we paying all this money for it every year? It's so disgusting!

Anyway, first things first--we went to Lowe's Tuesday night and bought a new kitchen faucet. The 5th one we've had in 5 years in this house. What's up with that? Greg refused to buy one with a pull-out faucet. The pull-out sprayer is now separate from the faucet. He spends 2 hours attempting to install it, and can't. The new faucets are made differently, and it will not hook up to our old plumbing. He thinks he can get a fitting to take care of this, but everything is closed at this point, so he'll have to do it Wednesday.

I spend all day Wednesday with no water in my kitchen sink.

On the way home from church Wednesday night, he stops at Home Depot and buys a part. It doesn't work. He can't get the old stuff off the old plumbing. He has to call a plumber.

I spend all day Thursday with no water in my kitchen sink.

Meanwhile, I remember that a mom in my local homeschool group has the same flooring we do. I call her Wednesday morning to see if she has an extra box. She has her husband look when he comes home Wednesday night. They both think they have one or two extra boxes but can't find them in his dad's shed. His dad will be home from Pennsylvania Sunday night, so they'll check with him then.

Here's a picture of the new faucet!

The plumber arrived Tuesday at 4:15. It was a quick and easy fix and VERY inexpensive! Greg's connections in the construction world helped here as the owner of the company told the plumber not to charge for the service call. Whew! Now we're just waiting to see about the floor. I'll keep you posted.

I'm glad you've got running water again! It is amazing how these little things can frustrate us.
