More Christmas Traditions - Ornaments

We began the tradition of giving the kids an ornament every year in 1994 for Landon's second Christmas. When they leave home, each child will have a small collection of ornaments that represent his/her life through the years. Well, after several years of this, the kids' ornaments began crowding my big tree. So, we purchased a 4 ft. tree to put their ornaments on. There was plenty of room for any ornaments they made, also.

Last year, they began complaining that their tree was getting too crowded. So, this year I bought another 4 ft. tree.

This is the boys' tree. It is in the corner of the library/school room. We put some of our family Advent gifts under these trees, so that they would be easy to find. This year, Landon got an Air Force ornament to represent his new membership in the Civil Air Patrol. Gerren chose a drumset ornament which fits him well, also. More on the tree skirt under this tree later when I show you the skirt under my big tree.

This is the girls' tree. It is in the corner of the dining room. Under it you'll see a tree skirt my sister-in-law Kay made for me years ago. It didn't go well under my gold and white tree, so I was so thrilled to be able to use it on one of the kids' trees. You can also see a stuffed nativity I made more than 10 years ago when the boys were little. Carys loves to play with it!

The kids and I have always gone to Roger's Christmas House in Brooksville every year to purchase a *special* ornament for each child every year. I didn't realize how much they cherished that tradition until this year when we couldn't do it because we no longer live there. Even more sad, I found out that they are closing for good after this Christmas season. Going to Roger's was a cherished memory even from my own childhood :(

We buy our kids an ornament each year, and Robert's mom always has too. We realized a while back that we will have one empty tree when they are gone. Now, besides buying one special one for Robert, I usually buy an extra box to give to him too, lol.
